Overview
Parental controls let a parent or guardian link their Kashish AI account with a teen's account, review which protections are on, and approve or decline the teen's requests to remove specific ones. Either person can unlink the accounts at any time.
Linking accounts does not give a parent or guardian access to a teen's conversations, chat history, or message content. A parent can see when a linked account was last active, but not what was said.
A teen account is created automatically: anyone who enters a date of birth under 18 during sign-up is marked as a Teen account. A small "Teen" badge appears on their profile, and a set of default protections is switched on immediately — before any family member is even linked.
Link your accounts
Either the parent/guardian or the teen can start the invitation, from Settings > Parental controls.
Invite a family member
- Open Settings from your profile.
- Select Parental controls.
- Select Invite family member.
- Enter the other person's email address (or their phone number, if you'd rather invite that way).
- Choose whether they are your child or your parent/guardian.
- Select Send.
If the invite is sent to an email address that hasn't signed up yet, it's held and automatically delivered to their inbox the moment they create a Kashish AI account with that email. A phone-based invite works the same way, matched against the phone number on the recipient's account.
The other person sees the invite under Pending invites in their own Parental controls screen, with Accept and Decline options. Once accepted, both accounts appear under Family members for each other.
Manage parental controls
Once a teen account is linked, its default protections are visible from both sides in Settings > Parental controls:
| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Mature & sensitive content filter | Blocks sexual, violent, or graphic replies in chat. | Enabled |
| Romantic / flirty companion mode | Turns off flirty or romantic roleplay in replies, even if the teen initiates it. | Enabled |
| Strong language filter | Blocks profanity and strong language in replies. | Enabled |
| Late-night use reminder | A one-time gentle nudge to take a break if it's very late for the teen. | Enabled |
| Restrict content (any linked account) | A separate, parent-controlled switch that keeps every reply strictly clean — available for any linked family member, not only teens. | Off |
The first four rows are Teen protections — they turn on automatically for every Teen account at sign-up, whether or not a parent has linked up yet. They work differently from the "Restrict content" switch below them, which a parent can turn on or off directly at any time for anyone they supervise.
Removing a teen protection: request & approve
Teen protections can't be switched off from inside the app by the teen themselves, and a linked parent can't switch them off with a single tap either — each one is removed only through a request that the teen sends and a parent approves:
- The teen opens Settings > Parental controls and finds Your protections.
- Next to a protection that's still on, they select Request removal. (This only works once at least one parent/guardian is linked.)
- The request shows as Requested on the teen's side, and appears under that teen's name on the parent's Parental controls screen.
- The parent selects Accept to turn that one protection off, or Decline to keep it on. Declining doesn't block the teen from asking again later.
Each of the four Teen protections is requested and approved separately — accepting one request doesn't affect the other three. This is deliberately more restrictive than the "Restrict content" switch above, which a parent manages directly without a request step.
About the sensitive-content safeguards
The Mature & sensitive content filter and Romantic/flirty companion mode work together to keep a Teen account's conversations age-appropriate: they steer Kashish AI away from sexual or romantic roleplay, graphic or violent content, and away from initiating anything flirtatious, regardless of how the conversation is going.
Turning one of these off only changes that specific safeguard — it doesn't turn a Teen account into an adult account, remove the Teen badge, or affect any other protection.
Safety notifications
If you're a parent or guardian worried about a teen's wellbeing, the most reliable thing you can do is talk with them directly, and involve a doctor, school counselor, or mental health professional if you're concerned. If you believe someone may be in immediate danger, contact local emergency services right away.
Unlink your accounts
Either person can remove the link at any time from Settings > Parental controls, by selecting the family member and confirming Remove this family link. This immediately ends the parent's ability to view or manage that account's settings.
Unlinking does not change a teen's existing protections — they stay exactly as they were (on, or previously removed) until a new parent/guardian is linked and future requests are approved.
When a teen turns 18
If someone's Teen protections should no longer apply, the same request-and-approve flow above is the way to remove them today. Automatic age transition is something we're aware isn't built yet.
FAQ
Can a parent read a teen's conversations?
No. Linking accounts never shares chat content — only the protection settings on this page and a last-active timestamp.
Can a teen unlink parental controls on their own?
Yes. Either side can unlink at any time from Parental controls; there's no approval needed to unlink.
Does turning off "Restrict content" affect the four Teen protections?
No — they're independent. "Restrict content" is a separate, directly-toggled switch a parent controls for anyone they supervise; the four Teen protections can only change through a request the teen sends and the parent approves.
Can I link with more than one parent or more than one teen?
Yes, on both sides — there's no limit on how many family members you can link with.
Can I invite a family member by phone number instead of email?
Yes — Invite family member supports either an email address or a phone number, whichever is easier to reach the other person with.
